Local Government Re-organisation and the Community Governance Review
As you may be aware, the Government’s English Devolution White Paper (issued in December 2024) requires the re-organisation of local government (LGR), taking away our current two-tier system in Hampshire (Hampshire County Council as the upper tier and Winchester City Council as our district council).
Winchester City Council has launched a Community Governance Review (CGR) asking residents their opinion on the formation of a new parish council to cover the area currently covered by Winchester Town Forum. Part of this review is looking at the future of parish councils on the edges of Winchester Town Forum area, like Badger Farm Parish Council, Olivers Battery Parish Council and Compton and Shawford Parish Council. It is very important that residents take part in this Community Governance Review. There is an online survey to complete, and the closing date is 22 December.
